July 6-12 The Wind Chamber Music Institute will be held as part of Frostburg State University's Savage Mountain Summer Arts Academy. The Wind Chamber Music Institute provides a creative and intense course of study open to high school music students (grades 9-12) who play flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon. This one-week camp will consist of chamber ensemble rehearsals, private instruction, a daily instrument masterclass, camp chorus, and an end of camp concert where all students will perform. Friends Aware Donations
Friends Aware, Inc. is a non-profit organization, which provides services for adults with developmental disabilities residing in Allegany County. Talented artists receiving services from Friends Aware have participated in creating and expressing themselves through the Arts. Salvation Army Seeking Arts Volunteers
The Salvation Army community center in south Cumberland is seeking volunteers to come two or three times a year to do art projects with small groups. The group would like to bring the arts to low-income and at-risk youth in Allegany County. Salvation Army outreach programs reach between 40 and 60 young people every day and projects would be done in a large building with lots of space. Western Maryland Photographers Association
The Western Maryland Photographers Association (WMPA) is a group of local photographers that generally meet on the last Thursday of each month from 6-8PM to discuss all things photography-related. Meeting locations vary and group shoots often occur throughout the year. Doll Artists Monthly Meeting
The Tri-State Doll Artists group will meet at the Allegany County Library on Washington Street from 7-9PM on the second Thursday of each month. The purpose of this meeting is to share our common interest and ideas to find a way to promote handmade dolls. Anyone interested in joining the group, regardless of skill level, is welcomed. Art Groups Meet
The “Portrait Study Group” meets from 10AM-12PM on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of the month (no fee), and a “Painting Study Group” from 10AM-3PM on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month (no fee). Both groups will meet at the Methodist Church in LaVale at the corner of National Highway and Cash Valley Road. Tri-State Yarn Angels
The Tri-State Yarn Angels is a group of caring people who knit and crochet warm gifts for local groups. Anyone wishing to knit or crochet is welcome. Some Yarn Angels knit and crochet at home; others enjoy the gatherings. The Tri-State Yarn Angels meet at the LaVale Library on the 2nd Monday of each month, from 5:30-9pm.
